Charles Benjamin Hawley

Charles Benjamin Hawley, a Civil War Reenactor with Company B, 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment since 1991, Mr. Hawley has spoken to schools, government agencies, and numerous civic organizations throughout the country about Blacks in the Civil War. Mr. Hawley’s great-great-grandfather, Orrin B. Hawley, was a member of the 29th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Colored).

Mr. Hawley is on the board of The United States Colored Troops Living History Association (USCTLHA), The United States Colored Troops Institute, Hartwick College, Oneonta, New York, The Robert Smalls Foundation, and is active in a Civil War Living History Programs at National Parks Service Sites and schools in the metropolitan Washington area. He is also a member of Historical Extras and has had several bit parts in History Channel Documentaries, Public Broadcasting Television and most recently performed in a video for the Philadelphia African American Historical Society.
